We recently adopted 2 puppies from 2 different rescues. Licorice was adopted from Dogs Deserve Better.  Butterscotch was adopted from Maryland Animal Sanctuary and Rescue.  We kept the names they were given because it is so cute to have Licorice and Butterscotch.

Licorice is very feisty and she wants to GO.  It doesn't matter where she goes as long as she is moving.  On Thursday, May 7th  she escaped our yard under the gate and was running down the sidewalk.  My daughter, Alycia was chasing her to bring her back.  Licorice stopped running and Alycia didn't.  She stepped on her leg.  These dogs get under my feet all the time.  I didn't think her leg was broken.  The next morning I took her to Greenbriar Veterinary Hospital in Frederick, Maryland.  They took several x-rays of her leg and found that it was broken at the joint.  The doctor that was on duty, Dr. Pooya, happens to be Chief of Surgery at Greenbriar Veterinary Hospital and is an orthopedic specialist.  Because the break was right on the joint it was suggested that she have an operation to put 2 pins in her leg so she will have complete mobility rather than a cast that would prevent the break from healing properly.  (This description is my understanding of the procedure and may be worded incorrectly as I am a layman.)  She had the surgery just a few hours after we arrived.  The cost is high, but there was no way I could choose to not have the surgery.  Licorice is 13 weeks old.

So with the initial exam and x-rays, cost of the surgery, medication and follow-up visits the total will be more than $3,500.  This was certainly an unexpected expense.  Please donate if you can.
