Honor Lich Vu: Support His Family’s Healing

On October 27, 2024, Lich Vu, a 71-year-old Vietnamese American veteran and beloved Oklahoma City community leader, was involved in a minor car accident on Northwest 39th Street Expressway. A routine traffic stop turned tragic when an Oklahoma City police officer body-slammed Lich to the pavement, causing a brain bleed, fractured bones, and a rapid health decline. Despite his forgiving spirit and battle with cancer, Lich passed away on October 3, 2025, at age 72, leaving his wife, family, and community heartbroken.
Lich was a beacon of kindness—a Vietnam War veteran who dedicated his life to feeding the homeless and uplifting OKC’s Vietnamese American community. His final words, shared by the Vietnamese American Heritage Community of Oklahoma, urged us to “feed the homeless and shelter the needy.” Now, we must rally to support his family, who face overwhelming costs.

The Financial Burden
Lich’s injuries led to a three-week hospital stay, surgeries, a feeding tube, and nearly a year of therapy, compounding his cancer care. His family now faces:

Medical Costs: $108,000–$179,000 for hospital stays, surgeries, and ongoing care.
Funeral Expenses: $7,000–$8,500 for a dignified service honoring Lich’s Vietnamese heritage.
Family Support: $20,000–$40,000 for living expenses and counseling during their grief.

Total costs range from $135,000 to $227,500—a crushing burden for a retiree’s family. An ongoing federal civil rights lawsuit offers no immediate relief. Your donation can ease this load and honor Lich’s legacy.

How Your Donation Helps
Every dollar supports Lich’s family by covering:

Outstanding medical bills from his year-long health battle.
Funeral and memorial costs for a respectful farewell.
Essential living expenses for his wife and loved ones.
Counseling to help them heal emotionally.
A small portion for platform and processing fees.

Our goal is $150,000 to provide meaningful relief. Any surplus will support OKC charities Lich cherished, like those serving the homeless.

Why This Matters
Lich’s story has sparked calls for police reform and support for immigrant communities across Oklahoma. His forgiveness of the officer, despite immense pain, inspires us to unite in compassion. By donating, you stand for justice and the values Lich lived by.
