Free Bilingual Books for Colombian Kids

Tax deductible

We continue with our mission to create books and other educational products that increase children’s awareness of global environmental issues and foster multilingual literacy.

We are seeking donations to print and distribute 2,000 free copies of The Adventures of Pili in the River of Seven Colors to distribute to kids in remote communities, especially in Colombia, the country that inspired this book.

What people are saying:

“The birds are losing their colors out of sadness because they are losing their homes. A world without colorful birds is a world much less beautiful than the world we were born to. Can Pili find a way to reverse this tragedy, and get the birds’ colors back? There is a way. As you’ll read in this terrific story.

“The Adventures of Pili in the River of Seven Color is a fable of love and friendship, a quest for answers to explain why the birds have lost their colors. At once full of radiance and joy, sadness and loss, the book encourages children to embrace conservation, to love nature, and to be kind to the world. Kike Calvo has written a beautiful book destined to be beloved by many.”
~ Luanne Rice
New York Times bestselling author

“Delightful! This book invites us on a journey through some of the most magical and iconic landscapes of Colombia. It is a celebration of not just the endangered biodiversity but also the extraordinary cultural and linguistic diversity of one of the World’s most fascinating, mysterious yet unexplored countries.
As a father, and as the first person to publish an account and illustration of the newly-described  Blue-bearded Hermit in a field guide, I simply cannot recommend it enough. Read it, read it again! “
- Miles McMullan. Author and Conservationist

The Adventures of Pili in the River of Seven Colors: This book is a journey of discovery through the mountains and rainforests of Colombia. Through delightful adventures, our book tackles the concepts of peace and global readiness, cultural diversity and empowerment, entrepreneurship, and environmental conservation. Global readiness is about understanding interdependencies and connections, feeling comfortable with differences, and speaking languages other than our own. The illustrations are created by the terrific illustrator Walter Carzon. The foreword is written by National Geographic photographer and 2020 Guggenheim Fellow Maggie Steber.

Specs: The book will be printed on recycled paper, 90 GSM, with a 230 GSM softcover. The donations we are seeking will fund the printing and distribution of this new bilingual publication.

About: I am a Safina Center 2020 fellow. As a photographer for National Geographic Expeditions and Lindblad, I am constantly traveling to remote places of the world, teaching photography,
The Adventures of Pili, and aiming at inspiring people. I want to thank each of you for your help and encouragement to develop this project. This means a lot to me.

This book will be suitable for ages three to nine years old, but it should be meaningful for anyone interested in international adventures and thoughtful lessons, especially if you have a love for Colombia and Latin America. I am positive this book will bring a smile to all.

It has taken almost four years to jumpstart The Adventures of Pili project, but we are committed to making it happen. I am happy to answer your questions about the project, please do not hesitate to contact me. You will find additional information on our website www.theadventuresofpili.com and regular postings on Instagram.
