Library Memorial for Sydney Kaplan

For those of you who had the pleasure of knowing Sydney, you would know that she was a bright, beautiful and thoughtful girl who was a joy to be around. Sydney loved archery, playing lacrosse, and sailing with her family, but her passion was reading. Sydney never failed to give fantastic book recommendations, whether she was sharing titles personally or through Instagram where she both recommended and reviewed books as well. One of the activities she enjoyed most was attending a book club that met at the Belvedere-Tiburon Library.
In eighth grade, Sydney was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Despite this serious diagnosis and the challenges it presented, Sydney was so incredibly strong and brave as she continued to go to school and spread positivity. After battling cancer for more than two years Sydney, unfortunately, passed away on November 25th, 2020. This was a tremendous loss to her family, friends, and her community. She will forever be missed by all of us who loved her, and we would like for the community to have an opportunity to honor her memory.
The Belvedere-Tiburon Library is currently hosting a fundraiser to pay for the library’s renovation and expansion. The fundraiser includes the addition of a beautiful granite donor wall in front of the new wing. The wall will be designed with individual bricks that, for $2,000 each, will immortalize the names of donors and library supporters. All proceeds from the donor wall will help pay for the library expansion. The library is planning a grand opening at the end of this summer (2021). Therefore, our goal is to raise $2,000 by May to get Sydney's name engraved on the donor wall to honor Sydney’s memory as well as her unconditional love for books. Any extra proceeds will be donated to the library to additionally contribute to the restoration of this communal landmark.
