In honor of Pride, which was started because of the protests of queer Black and Indigenous people, we wanted to share a home performance of our protest song.
The commodification of pride each year diminishes the original purpose of these protests and continues to erase the people who risked their lives for our liberation.
This year, we are asking people to support Black queer people directly and not participate in the consumerist schemes led by major corps. Black-trans folk, Black-disabled folk, and Black femmes are at the center of not just the most violence, but the most urgent needs.
We have created a GoFundMe that will support our art and our day-to-day ability to sustain ourselves as struggling queer creators. Although many may not know, our journeys as artists have not been easy and we are doing everything in our power to survive currently.
We are currently caring for Cameron’s youngest sibling who has been displaced due to their identity as a trans person. The three of us are sharing space in a one-bedroom apartment that we barely can maintain on our own. Many people see the pictures of our loft space and assume we are living well and that’s just not the reality. We are struggling. This building has undergone major transitions with management and tenants and isn’t even maintained with cleanliness or care. We are overwhelmed with navigating trying to survive while also being depressed Black artists and the only thing that has sustained us up until now is the community of queer friends we have found in Los Angeles.
