Hi everyone!
Our family needs your help! Normally this isn't something we'd feel comfortable doing, but with money being so tight right now we thought we would give it a try. We are putting our egos aside and asking for your support to help cover costs for Liberty's treatment and physical therapy.
Liberty has been diagnosed with Congenital Muscular Torticollis. Congenital Torticollis occurs when the neck muscle that runs up and towards the back of the baby's neck are shortened. This causes the babys head to go down and to one side. Her Pediatrician is not sure what caused this to happen, but it could have been her position in the womb, a muscle injury at birth, or a bone problem in the neck portion of her spine. Needless to say she needs to have extensive physical therapy in order to correct the issue. We are hoping that with a few months of aggressive physical therapy that her neck muscle will stretch and allow for proper movement and that surgery will not be necessary.
Due to her Torticollis, Liberty has been unable to move her head in a variety of positions and unfortunately has developed moderate to high moderate Plagiocephaly with Brachycephaly. It has been recommended that she be treated with a DOC Band (helmet) immediately. The DOC Band is a medical device known as a cranial orthosis which is used to treat a medical condition known as Deformational Plagiocephaly (abnormal head shape in infants). The DOC band is intended to apply pressure to the prominent regions of an infant's cranium and improve cranial symmetry and shape by capturing their brain growth.
If these issues are not treated she will need surgery to stretch or lengthen her neck muscle and the areas of her cranium will continue to shift and bulge which will make it difficult for glasses, helmets, and hats to fit properly in the future. We are doing everything in our power at home to correct the problems by repositioning and using stretching techniques, but physical therapy and the DOC Band are still necessary.
Insurance only covers so much, so with your support we will be able to cover any deductibles, co-pays, and remaining costs necessary for her treatment. She will be able to attend the suggested physical therapy appointments and be able to get into a DOC Band as soon as possible. Anything helps and we truly appreciate your support! Thank you in advance!
With love,
