Libby’s Surgery Support
Donation protected
Libby is the most caring and loving 12-year-old and is adored by all who meet them. A straight “A” student, Libby is actively involved in theater, student council, band, and Girl Scouts. Libby has an absolute heart of gold - for their last several birthdays they chose to raise funds for non-profits in lieu of gifts, most notably raising over $600 for Saving Paws Animal Shelter and over $400 for Harbor House Domestic Abuse Shelter.
In January 2023, Libby went to the pediatrician for a routine visit where the doctor found a lump in their neck. After a series of tests Libby was referred to an endocrine surgeon in Madison. We learned that Libby actually has two tumors in their neck. While one is tiny and not too concerning at this point, the other is quite large. The tumor is hardened on the inside and has blood flow - signs of malignancy. The surgeon said that the fact that Libby has these at all at such a young age is another indicator of malignancy.
Due to the positioning of the vascular flow within the nodule, the surgeon is unable to perform a traditional biopsy. The only way to determine with certainty whether it is cancerous or not is to surgically remove Libby’s thyroid. Libby will be having this surgery in April and is understandably scared.
In addition to the surgery itself there are a number of pre-op and post-op appointments that we will need to go to - all requiring travel to Madison to the Children’s Hospital.
This is placing a significant financial burden on our family at a time when our only concern should be getting our kiddo healthy. Going back and forth to Children’s Hospital in Madison requires gas, food money, hotel stays for some appointments, not to mention the actual medical costs. All this is coming at a time when (mom) Heather is dealing with her own medical disability and waiting to get approved for social security so currently without any income.
It is, frankly, humbling and embarrassing to have to ask for help. But we are willing to do whatever it takes to get our love the care they need. We are so thankful to have the love and support of so many wonderful people. We love you all!
