Hi.. My name is Kelly Fortner.. me and my husband, Robert Fortner, had a Son (Liam Henry Allen Fortner) on 10/18/23 and his health started out bad. We knew he was going to have heart issues, but it turned into him having really bad lungs as well. His heart was able to be repaired, but his lungs haven’t, and he was put on a ventilator from the day he was born. He started with it down his throat, and they eventually got it to go into his neck.. the hope was that his lungs would get stronger over time, and there for a while there was hope. He even got moved to Rockcastle in mt Vernon Ky that specialized in helping kids and adults get to a point where they can get off the trach. It took 7 months to get to that point, but then he ended up being flown to UK medical center in Lexington cause he was struggling hard to breathe last Monday evening, and the only thing that helped was to heavily sedate him. They weren’t able to take the sedation off without his lungs collapsing, they had him on the highest vent settings possible, and they’ve tried increasing the length of his trach tube in hopes that maybe he’d just grown out of it. That did not work. They were able to figure out he had a lot of fluid on his brain, and after draining some of it, they were able to take him off of full sedation, and lower the oxygen from 100% to 60%, however the CT scan has shown that his lungs are in bad shape, and there is nothing they can do for that but wait and hope it gets better. If it comes to the worst case scenario, then we will want to go down there (cause we are 2 hrs away) to make that decision.. unfortunately we have been struggling hard with bills and just keeping food in the house, and I have to also care for my very sick mother who’s completely dependent on me due to being bed ridden. We can’t afford to pay for anyone to watch her, or make sure she has her subsistences without being here to DoorDash. I would never consider doing this for most of any situation because I’m someone who tries to solve their own problems without asking for charity, but in this situation not being there isn’t an option and I don’t know if we could come up with the funds alone.. right now we are just asking for a couple hundred.. but if we have to make that decision, then we will need help with funeral expenses..
