Hi everyone!!!
We are rallying behind Liam Johnston, a remarkable local resident from Parkinson in Brisbane, who is making incredible strides in his sporting journey. Liam's passion for sports began with Rugby League, but during COVID, he discovered his new calling in powerlifting! Since then, he's achieved extraordinary success, earning a spot on the podium at every competition.
Liam holds the NATIONAL record in the Junior 105 kg weight class for bench press, with personal bests that leave us all in awe:
Squat: 250 kg
Bench Press: 180 kg
Deadlift: 300 kg
Now, Liam has earned the incredible honour of representing Australia at the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Bench Press Championship in Nauru this October! This international tournament, sanctioned by the International Powerlifting Federation, will bring together athletes from across the Pacific, including Australia, Tonga, Fiji, American Samoa, and more.
Unfortunately, despite his success, Liam no longer qualifies for government sports grants as he is over 18, and he currently has no sponsorships. Liam is funding himself to make his dream of competing on the international stage come true, but he needs our help to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and competition fees.
To help him get there, we're starting this GoFundMe page, and we welcome any contributions, big or small. Let's come together as a community and show Liam that we're behind him every step of the way!
I'm the local Councillor in the Brisbane City Council, but I'm also an ex-powerlifter myself, so I've already passionately helped to kickstart his journey to Nauru with $500 of support.
Let's get behind Liam and help him to POWERLIFT FOR AUSTRALIA!
THANK YOU!
