Liam Goggins Get Well Gift Fund
Donation protected
Siena Women’s Soccer Alumni, Family and Friends;
We are reaching out in hopes that our soccer community can come together to provide an amazing get well gift for former Siena Women’s Soccer player Lindsay Tegas (2012) 3 year old son, Liam. Liam will bravely undergo his second open heart surgery scheduled for December 9. Below is Liam’s story. Please consider sharing his story and donating any amount you can to help bring the biggest smile to his face when he sees his new backyard playset after he recovers!
On July 28, 2018 Liam was on his way to celebrate his 1 year old birthday at his grandparents’ house. Shortly upon arriving at his grandparents’ house a few blocks away, Lindsay noticed her son face turning purple and not breathing. Lindsay found herself in a situation no mother wants to ever be in, performing lifesaving CPR on her unresponsive son. Lindsay was able to get Liam breathing and slightly responsive as ambulances were on their way to take him to the hospital. After two more episodes of unconsciousness and several tests performed, it was discovered his heart was failing. Liam had mitral valve stenosis leading to the coarctation of aorta and pulmonary hypertension. He would need to undergo open heart surgery to save his life. The hard decision was made to fully sedate and intubate him to help get him the rest and energy needed for his upcoming surgery. On August 2, Liam underwent open heart surgery for 8 hours. They were not able to repair the mitral valve, so a mechanical valve was placed in there. The coarctation was worse than expected, but they were able to repair it. Liam's surgery was a success and he was on the road to recovery. On August 16, after almost a month in the hospital, Liam was able to go home.
Liam’s recovery was going great, and he was thriving like many other toddlers. This summer however, Liam started to become increasingly tired, and not the usual non-stop over active boy he normally was. Liam underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure on 6/1 which confirmed the presence of significant degree of mitral and aortic stenosis (both valves on the left side of his heart are not working correctly) Liam’s parents were told his heart was failing again and would need to undergo open heart surgery, which is currently scheduled for December 9, 2020.
Our thoughts, prayers and well wishes are with the Goggins family for Liam surgery and recovery. Liam is such a strong, resilient little boy and despite all he has been through, he is still just the happiest little kid who loves being a new big brother! Please consider donating to his fund. Any additional money raised over the goal amount will be provided to the Goggins family to help offset any medical costs they will incur with Liam's surgeries.
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
