Hi, I’m Kristen Nicoll & I’m raising money for my beautiful son, Liam Nicoll, and his soon-to-be best buddy & service animal to help & aid in alerting Liam when he is having a high or a low blood sugar.
Liam was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in February of 2020 and we’ve watched the emotional toll it has taken on him, as well as the physical.
Most people are unaware of the difference between T1D and T2D. While both can be life altering, T1D (Liam’s condition) is an autoimmune disease and cannot be cured with food alternatives or extra exercise. His pancreas is totally dead & his body will rely on insulin for the rest of Liam’s life.
This condition comes with a lot of high’s & low’s (pun intended, hehe) and Liam doesn’t always feel the danger signs of being in hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia unfortunately- which for him can be deadly.
There is also another aspect to this disease that few discuss and it’s the emotional toll that it plays on a person, especially a child.
Liam doesn’t get to just go about his day anymore like he use to with nibbling on this or that, being a normal kiddo without all the lifesaving gadgets attached to him, or counting and calculating every little thing he’d like to participate in just to fit in with his peers. He, unfortunately, will never know the life he once had again.
That’s why raising money for a service animal is so important to our family. After puppy sitting for two weeks, we saw the joy light up in Liam’s face, even with the numerous pump changes and injections. We saw him smile when the dog would lay with him when he wasn’t feeling well because he was having a low blood sugar. We saw the positive influence that a dog can bring to someone in Liam’s condition and that is why we are reaching out to ask you to help fund our son’s dreams of finding his perfect diabetic alert sidekick.
So please, it is with a full heart, that we as a family ask you to consider donating to our son’s dream of having a companion he can walk through this T1D journey with for a very longtime. Someone he can lean on when it hurts too much physically or emotionally. Someone he can rely on to keep him notified even when technology fails. Someone who can lend that extra layer of comfort and love throughput all of Liam’s ups and downs. Someone to be his 24/7 T1D sidekick!!
We are so thankful for whatever you can give during these times & we are so lucky to have you even take the time to consider donating.
Be blessed & thank you for helping us aid in finding our son another level of care for his condition.
