2018 was a big year for our family. After 10 years of waiting we were able to become pregnant again through IVF. In September during a late ultrasound at 28 weeks the Dr informed us that our sweet Liam was going to be born with a complicated form of HLHS, which is a severe heart defect that causes him to have only half a heart. Without treatment HLHS is fatal. After diagnosis we started making plans and that led us to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.
The week before Thanksgiving I transferred my care to TX from AK where Liam would be born. On 12/6/2018 Liam came into this world ready to fight. He had a cathetor procedure the day he was born, followed by his first of 3 open heart surgeries, the Norwood.
On 1/2/2019 Liam suffered a cardiac arrest and a stroke. He was put on ecmo to save his life, followed by a second open heart surgery which lasted 14 hours. The Drs found that he had an infection and they had to revise the first procedure.
Liam has been in the ICU since birth. He is required to stay in Houston until after the second surgery, the Glen. In all of this I (Amber) have had to take an extended leave of absence from my job, reducing our families income by a third. While Dan is able to bring home enough to keep up with the regular bills, without my income there is very little left for groceries, new medical bills or any of the cost of me living down here til likely May or June. A special thank you to everyone who has helped us already and those who have stood with us in prayer throughout this journey, your kindness has blessed us immeasurably.
