Hello! We’re the Rissmiller Family. Our son Liam is Autistic and nonverbal and has been working really hard at school and in therapy to learn to use a medical-grade AAC device (Augmentative & Alternative Communication). He is ready for his own device at home and we need your help!
Our insurance has processed this medically necessary piece of equipment, however we are responsible for paying up to our deductible for the device, which is our goal of $5,000. Any help is appreciated! In addition to funding this device now, our family suffered a total loss fire in March of 2023, but we do not want to hold off on this purchase any longer.
What’s so special about this device?
It’s a medical grade tablet created to withstand every day, all day use. It requires his therapists and doctors to prescribe and validate that it will meet his needs. The software installed is for one purpose-communication! This tablet is not for fun, it is for a basic function most of us take for granted. Liam uses pictures on the screen to navigate and create full sentences that are spoken aloud.
Can you imagine not being able to express yourself with words? How would anyone know what you need, how you feel, or what you want to do? How would anyone know what you want to eat, wear, or play? These are all basic human communication needs and with your help, this device will help us provide Liam a tool that gives him that ability too.
