Lia Habtai Beraki 1953-2022

On Friday, August 5th, the heavens gained the sweetest angel. Lia Habtai Beraki was a Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Sibling, and dear friend to many of us throughout her lifetime. Over the years, she battled her sickness yet always remained optimistic and offered help wherever she could till the very end.

From raising her family in Asmara to supporting her daughter and friends/family right here in the Washinton, DC area, Lia left behind a husband, Amanuel Tseggai Awalom, and five children, Naret, Natsanet, Pawles, Finan, and Feven. She was loved and treasured by her community everywhere,

We are asking for donations to help cover the cost of her funeral in Eritrea. We want to give Mama Lia the memorial she deserves to honor her memory and say our last goodbyes.

There will also be an opportunity for friends and family to say their final goodbyes here in the Washington, DC area before she heads back to Asmara, where she will finally be put to rest.

The wake service will be held at St; Mary Eritrean Orthodox Church (3705 Longfellow St. Hyattsville, MD 20782) on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, starting at 4:30 pm. There will also be a viewing at the same address, St. Mary Eritrean Orthodox Church, on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, beginning at 10:30 am.
