The LGHS Robotics Team, a finalist at the Silicon Valley Regional, has just qualified for the FRC World Championship in Houston!
But we need your help: our budget is nearly depleted, and we have one week to raise $17,400 in order to go.
At the Silicon Valley Regional, LGHS Robotics—known as Team 972 in competition—joined the 4th seed alliance (alongside Teams 604 and 7308) and managed to upset the 1st seed alliance! Upsets like this are extraordinarily rare. Our nimble 2019 robot specializes in placing kickballs into designated holes in a "rocket" and "cargo ship." We ended up losing to the alliance captained by Team 254—the 2018 World Champion—but our status as a finalist team secured us a "wildcard" invitation to compete at the 2019 FRC World Championship.

As a young team in our 4th year, we are in an unusual situation since we went to Worlds last year. This massive undertaking left enough of a dent in our 2019 budget that we cannot afford to go to Worlds this year without bankrupting the team. Nevertheless, going to Worlds is an unparalleled experience for us to expand our expertise and establish ourselves as a dominant Bay Area team.
About Us
Team 972 was restarted in 2016 by a small group of determined LGHS students after an eight-year hiatus of the FRC program. Early on, our team established a student-led culture that translates to students building all robots, training new members, and coordinating outreach ventures. Each year we design and build an entire 120-pound robot from scratch in just six weeks and then compete in the spring.
Why Do We Need Your Help?
We would like to send 22 students to the Houston Championship. Considering flights, hotels, and meals, the total cost per student is $1,200 for a grand total of $26,400. We plan to allocate $9,000 from our reserve funds, but we are looking to local businesses, families, and friends to raise $17,400. Please help us make it to the 2019 World Championship!
