LGBTQ Rights and Safety in Uganda
Donation protected
The Anti-Homosexuality Act, signed into law in 2023, has had severe consequences for the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda.
Health consequences: LGBTQ+ individuals face significant barriers to healthcare, including HIV treatment and prevention services, due to fear of arrest and discrimination. COSF Medical Services strives to bare the gaps by providing free essential quality comprehensive medical services to the LGBTQ community members. COSF medical services also respond to homo and trans-phobic situations such as mob attacks, battering among others, with this lives are saved from being lost in such.
Rise in hate crimes: The law has emboldened vigilantes and extremist groups, leading to a surge in violent attacks and evictions many LGBTQ+ members have been evicted from their parent’s home due to their sexuality .Some of these vulnerable souls have given a second roof at COSF Shelter along with mental health and economic empowerment skills and we are equipping them with economic empowerment skills such that they can be able to sustain themselves given the fact that they can not secure formal employment due to limited qualifications.
We intend to continue providing services through procurement of medicine and facilitation of the clinic.
