LGBTQ Community Rise Up! Help Danny & Holly with Unexpected Medical Bills
Danny and Holly are an amazing couple who met while working at a Residential Treatment Facility in South Dakota. After dating a couple of years, they were married on June of 2014 in Minneapolis, MN. Both decided to attend school again to advance their careers. Danny earned a Master Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Holly earned her Associates degree in Human Services and is currently working on her Bachelor’s. They did this while working full-time helping young people turn negatives into positives.
Last year they decided to have their own child together. Both Danny and Holly committed to a rigorous protocol. Danny is transgender and was in the process transitioning when they found out that they could not use Holly’s eggs. Both had to endure months of numerous hormone shots, selecting the donor, retrieving and using Danny’s eggs, implanting the eggs in Holly via in vitro. Since the procedure was complex, it required many extra sonograms, doctor visits and other extra costs.
At 1:30 a.m. on Danny’s birthday, while family was visiting, Holly went into premature labor. The twins were 20 weeks old. Holly was flown out by helicopter to a bigger hospital and Danny drove to meet her. The next day Holly’s water broke and one twin, Everett was stillborn. They still had hope for the other twin, Emmett, to make it to 24 weeks. However, he was delivered a day later and also passed away. Holly had lost a lot of blood and had to be rushed to surgery. In a brief period of five days, their dream was gone.
When Danny got his Master’s, he accepted another job at the same place Holly worked. When he changed his employment, his new insurance deemed Holly’s condition as a pre-existing condition. So a large portion of the bills were not covered by insurance before the incident. They had budgeted for this. Then, the unexpected turn of events brought on a whole new set of medical bills. Just the bill for the helicopter was $8,000. There is also three operations to cover within that five days.
We are trying to raise $50,000 to help these people who have devoted their lives to helping children. To help them get back on their feet and start pursuing new dreams. We hope that you would consider donating to help relieve their debt. During the campaign we will show the bills being paid as the money is donated so people can see where their contribution went. Any help is greatly appreciated.
