Mulvihill Family Support -- Healthcare

Friends, community, and loved ones...

I need to tell you about my mothers, if you haven't heard me rave of them at any point in the past 31 years of my life. I have an amazing queer family who have faced the challenges and difficulties of being members of the LGBT community; the prejudices, the inequality, the financial instability. And after years of being warriors, champions, and mothers to two children on one side, and four on the other, I have to champion for them in a world that is willing to leave them behind.

For years, my mother Debra Mulvihill, and her wife Cynthia Mulvihill, alongside as much help from my mom's original partner when I was growing up, have battled the realities of their conditions.

Cynthia has Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis and hasn't worked in nearly 10 years.  My mother has had 2 back spinal-fusions (2014, 2019/2020), one neck spinal-fusion due to degeneration (2014), the reattachment of her bicep tendon by surgergy (2014), and 2 foot surgeries  due to talar dome fracture and removal of a neuroma from the same region (2015, 2015). That's six extensive surgeries, in combination with flare ups of Fibromyalgia for half a decade. Not all of these surgeries were successful and they left her recovering for extended periods of time with unsure results.

As a result, my mother had to switch professions to a lower paying job from being a Pharmacy Technician, which she went back to school for as a single mother with me and my brother when my parents originally split up, due to not being able to handle the standing demands of the job. They've spent a lot of time living with sisters, family members, sharing home spaces, up until the last few years when they moved to Florida for cheaper housing and Cynthia's daughter/family. They are now faced with giving up their puppy because of the physical demands and costs, staying in Florida instead of moving again to be closer to family on the West Coast, and the total cost of medical bills asked for in this GoFundMe

Through all of the losses, changes, surgeries, unemployment, and lack of sustainable income/client base at her new job, my mom has spent over $10K in medical bills, jobs have barely held on to her as an employee due to these restrictions, and with the in question healthcare system, it's been nearly impossible for them to stay above water without using every last resource, let alone saving for a very near retirement.

Not to mention, it is her birthday (3/17/1963) and she has not ever really received a substantial gift from me due to also having my own student debts, the struggles of escaping being lower class, and relocating countries in order to handle my own finances.

We don't pretend to have the least resources of anyone... But we are beyond helping each other after years of all struggling together, and for the first time are hoping that our families, friends, and community can come together to help my amazing family not succumb to the harsh realities of Healthcare in the United States.

If you can give anything or share this, there is no amount too big or small to change my mothers life. $4000 is only what we are facing now, but there is also estimated costs from losing her clientele at work and the upcoming cancelations of everything due to COVID-19.

Thank you for your time, energy, and compassion. <3

-A loving son
