Hey community! I am Ley’s partner, Tashi. Very soon, Ley and I will be celebrating our first anniversary together. Ley is a trans, non-binary Afro-latinx filmmaker as well as a freelance production sound mixer. I am an undocumented, Peruvian femme artist, educator, and freelance social media manager, coach, and graphic designer.
Last September we moved in together and began our little family along with our kitten, Aki. As we moved in together during a pandemic we both lost a lot of work and relied on our savings to get us by. This is my first year working as a freelancer and Ley has been an amazing, supportive partner, taking on the majority of our expenses.
I’m excited to share that in April 2021 Ley will have their top surgery! It has been a long journey for Ley to finally have this gender-affirming surgery; as is the case for most trans folx trying to live in this system.
We are both super excited and also nervous. The recovery process is long and it means that Ley will not be working. As a freelancer, this means no income coming in. Financially it is a difficult time for everyone, we are no exception. This is all to say, we need the support of our community.
Any amount you can donate will support us in paying rent, groceries, utilities, and other expenses we may have for Ley’s surgery and recovery. It is really hard to ask for help, and as we all know if the system worked for us instead of against us we wouldn’t need to rely on each other so heavily but I know the people help each other.
