My Granddaughter Leyla’s Fight Against Brain Cancer
My name is Jodi Brooks, and I’m the proud grandmother of Leyla.
On September 8, 2025, our world was turned upside down. That day, Leyla — our bright, joyful 4‑year‑old Pre‑K student at New Washington Elementary — was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor.
On September 8th and 9th, she bravely endured two brain surgeries to remove as much of the tumor as possible for biopsy and research.
The results confirmed what no family ever wants to hear: Leyla has aggressive, high‑grade Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG), K27M mutation, located in the thalamus.
This is a rare and devastating diagnosis, one that is extremely difficult to treat.
Her doctors have shared that her prognosis is limited, but they are working closely with us to begin radiation on October 6 with 33 rounds and explore every possible option that could give us more precious time with her.
Leyla is not walking this journey alone. She is the beloved little sister of Zohee (11) and Alex (9), and the big sister to Ellie (2). They adore her, and this fight impacts them deeply as well.
Our hope is to give them as much time together as possible — filled with love, laughter, and memories they will carry forever.
Despite the weight of this news, Leyla continues to shine with her warrior spirit. She is facing this battle with courage, and we are determined to surround her with love, comfort, and hope every single day.
I created this GoFundMe to help ease the financial burden on her parents so they can focus on what matters most: spending time with Leyla, supporting her through treatments, and making memories together.
Funds raised will go toward:
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance
- Travel and lodging for treatments
- Everyday living costs while her parents take time away from work
- Special experiences and moments that bring Leyla joy with her siblings
This fundraiser is more than financial help — it’s a piece of hope we can hand to Leyla.
Your kindness will help us focus on what matters most: giving her the love, care, and strength she needs to keep fighting.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting.
Together, we are #LeylaStrong
