Lexus' Fight against Aplastic Anemia
Donation protected
My daughter Lexus who was planning her wedding for October 14,2023 and woke up on the morning of September 25th,2023 and her life was changed forever. She had blood in her mouth and pinpoint dots on her legs. We immediately went to Jackson hospital that morning where they told her they'd need to do a bone biopsy to be sure, but that we were definitely looking at a blood cancer or disorder. She was admitted and then transferred 70 miles to Detroit Henry Ford hospital a few days later. A bone biopsy was done and 5 days later we learned to never take for granted our health. They diagnosed her with Aplastic Anemia and said she would need a bone marrow transplant. This is a dangerous and rare autoimmune disorder, it destroys her platelets as well as RBC's and makes her extremely vulnerable to any virus she might encounter. The marrow transplant is a long and complicated journey but is the only cure and carries a high success rate. Approximately 20,000 people are diagnosed with this a year. Her platelet levels drop to approximately 3,000 (normal is over 300,000) every 4th day. She's recieved platelets and blood transfusions and will continue to need them. Her body is attacking itself. Her immune system is no longer working correctly and her organs are crying out for help due to such low blood count. We now began the long journey of finding a bone marrow match, continued antibiotics to keep her from getting sick, transfusions, and daily trips to and from Detroit to be with her during her hospital stay. She will not be able to work for at least a year. I'm asking for help to cover medical, travel and household expenses. We all know the bills don't stop just because you are hospitalized. Any little bit helps! And please continue to pray for Lexus and her Fight against Aplastic Anemia!
