Hi, I'm Lucy. Owner of Stubbs Farm and I'm raising funds for my goat Lexi to get a new house on the farm.
For a little backstory, she's an older goat and currently my only girl living with a group of boys.
Historically I've had several different goats and both genders over the years but she is now the only female. Lexi has lived as the only girl for a couple of years now quite happily. In December, my two youngest boys suddenly started mounting her and soon after, one of the others did too. All the boys have been 'done' so they can't get her pregnant but that isn't stopping them from harassing her all day, every day. All three are much bigger than her and all are horned goats whereas Lexi is hornless so she's not as able to defend herself.
What I assumed would be a seasonal thing, has now crossed into daily mounting and she cant escape. In the last week, I've seen her deteriorate physically and mentally so I've pulled her (and 2 companion goats) out of the goat zone and placed her in a temporary home with the alpacas.
It cannot last long term as I don't mix graze here for many reasons. Goats and alpacas don't mesh that well together for dietary, behavioural and hygiene purposes.
Lexi and her 2 companion goats are currently occupying half of the alpacas' house and the alpacas can no longer all fit into their home. Which is not fair for them either.
So I have decided to build Lexi her own retirement area, alongside a couple of companion goats, where she can live out her senior years in peace and not having to worry about being mounted constantly. She can thrive without being harassed by younger fiesty boys.
I do not have a spare shelter for her as all the others are being used by the other animals or not goat appropriate.
After a few people have requested I do this,
I have set up this fundraiser. To help cover the costs of the new shelter and fence prep needed.
The cost of the shelter itself is £2.3k.
Remaining sums will be fencing and ground prep.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated but certainly not expected. If you can't donate, please do share the fundraiser so it spreads further.
Thank you, so so much!
