On October 22nd, 11:22pm Alexa Nicole Ortiz took her last breath. She fought on life support for many hours to be an organ donor, but unfortunately her heart stopped before an OR team was ready for her. Although her physical limitations and non-speaking autism prevented her from engaging in many things, Lexi also never experienced a world where she knew of evil. She loved watching Barney the Dinosaur and had the most contagious laugh. We know that she is in heaven now in the arms of God, and no longer suffering.

Her Grandma Jeanne and Aunt Julie poured every ounce of their being into her care. The silence in their home now is deafening, and the weight of their loss - our whole family's loss - is immense.

As they navigate the immediate grief of laying Lexi to rest and planning her service, they face hard financial realities. The continuous health complications of recent years have brought significant expenses. Compounding their sorrow, this means they will soon have to leave their home as well.
