As most of you know, Alexis was diagnosed in early 2020 with a very rare form of cancer, Ocular Melanoma. Just as the world was beginning to shut down due to the pandemic, her whole world changed in an instant during a routine eye exam. Ocular Melanoma affects only 6 per million people each year. This cancer starts in the eye, and often metastasizes to other parts of the body, most commonly the liver. Along with Radiation Plaque Therapy to essentially kill the tumor in her eye, in early March 2020, she completely changed her lifestyle to starve off the cancer from spreading to her liver. In late 2021, her cancer began to creep into her liver. She immediately began immunoembolization to try and stop the tumor in its tracks. Very thankfully, she was able to withhold any treatment for almost a year and has sought more natural remedies since early January 2023. However, her most recent scans have now shown about a dozen tumors in her liver, so more treatment is necessary. Currently, she has decided once again, to choose Immunoembolisation, which directly treats the liver. To learn more, see below: In addition to the numerous treatments that she has undergone, she has been consulting with a Naturopath who helps guide her through diet, supplements, and many other forms of therapies. She has made beating this cancer her full time job and is passionate about learning as much as she can to make her body work for her instead of against her. Alexis has devoted her days to seek natural remedies and less harsh treatments that would otherwise leave her with a poor quality of life. These expensive remedies have become a high burden as none of these are covered by insurance. For over 3 years now, she has made countless trips to her doctors in Philadelphia for continued treatments and vigilant surveillance that is needed for this cancer, and most often needs a travel companion to help her through recovery and travel. Treatments have become more complicated and Lexi and her family will need all the support they can get. In the fall of last year, she put together a benefit that amassed over 600 people where she raised funds that went directly to charities (ACIS & OMF) that are on the forefront of research and development for new treatments for Ocular Melanoma. Now, we are asking for help from her friends and family to help offset some of the expense of travel and stays in Philadelphia in which insurance does not cover. The cost of the naturopath and the supplements she takes on a daily basis are also tremendous and, of course, not covered.  I know that she has an army standing behind her, ready to help battle her way through this fight. #lexistrong #braveAF Since there is no cure for Ocular Melanoma, she is trying to make every bit of life she has count. Many thanks in advance for sharing her story and making sure she is here to watch her two beautiful children grow.https://www.jeffersonhealth.org/conditions-and-treatments/immunoembolization
