Lex's Medical Transport Fund -Up Up and Away!

We are creating this fundraiser to support a dear friend, Alexis Cairns (Lex) who needs to be transported by medical airplane from her home in Minnesota to her parents’ home in Pennsylvania. She is very sick, and this is a huge transition event that offers some exciting new hope!

We are reaching out to you today to help her out and to show her that people care about her and her family! By donating even the smallest amount, and/or by sharing this fundraiser with others, you can help ensure that she receives the care she needs, and also offer immeasurable personal comfort and support during this challenging time.

Lex has Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), a debilitating post viral neuroimmune disease (formerly known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.) She has battled with this disease for over 20 years and has been mostly bed bound for the past 9 years. In the picture you can see the low light levels in the room and the mask that Lex is wearing because of her eyes' extreme sensitivity to light, keeping her from reading or viewing screens.

Unfortunately, her medical condition makes regular transportation impossible. The safest way to move her will be in a medically equipped jet flown by a private company with a medical professional on board. As you might expect, medical flights are incredibly expensive at $27,000, and insurance will not cover this trip.

The new hope is that this fall is an opportune time for this move, because research into Long Covid and other post viral illnesses has and is generating medical and antiviral treatment possibilities. In PA, Lex will have a much better chance of getting treatment that might help her.

Alexis can no longer get the care she needs in Minnesota, so the best hope for her continued improvement is to move her to her parents’ home, where she will be cared for and will have better access to medical professionals.
