Running for Recovery, Healing & Hope – 42.2km of Purpose
Hi, I’m Lewis Shikapwasha, an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counsellor with HOPE Goldfields Community Alcohol and Drug Service (GCADS) — and on Sunday, 20 July 2025, I’ll be running the Goldfields Pipeline Marathon, a 42km trail run, to raise $10,000 for Mara Pirni working with Ngunytju Tjitji Pirni (NTP).
For me, running isn’t just physical - it’s deeply symbolic.
It’s a metaphor for life, recovery, and transformation.
“Running teaches endurance, focus, and resilience — the same qualities needed in recovery.”
I’ve completed over 10 marathons so far, and I know the journey is never easy. It’s painful. It’s long. But with the right support and purpose, growth becomes possible - just like recovery from AOD-related challenges.
This marathon is my way of saying:
With discipline, determination, and community - recovery and healing is possible. One step at a time.
What Your Donation Supports
I’m raising funds for Mara Pirni Healing Place, in partnership with NTP, to support:
- Grandmothers, carers, and extended family raising children impacted by parental AOD use
- Cultural healing activities in the Goldfields region
- Emotional and practical support for caregivers who are often the unsung heroes of our communities
Your donation helps provide the tools, resources, and recognition they deserve.
