Hi, as many of you know we are going through a really tough time.
There are details in here we have only shared with family but now its time to sahre Lewis story.
We would like people to donate money to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Royal Stoke, where our son Lewis James spent his 17 days in NICU, with the amazing consultants, doctors and nurses who looked after him 24/7 around the clock.
Lewis James was born at 24 weeks +2 days gestation, the labour didn't go to plan, I ended up having emergency c section and he arrived at 7 50pm, 13th September which means extreme prematurity.
With his scans, x rays etc we knew the main issue was with his lungs, to the extent some days he had no lungs working at all, the next day his lungs improved slighty, then days later both lungs collapsed again. This was a on going problem for everyone involved, the consultants literally tired everything. In the end we were told they were running out of options and to prepare ourselves for the worst. Saturday 27th we had a blessing where families members were involved as we thought the next day will be his last with us. The very next morning lewis started to turn a corner and we knew the fight was on, he somehow got air into his lungs and made the impossible, possible.
All through his journey all the doctors kept saying lewis was a true fighter, he was stubborn and never looked like giving up and he wrote his own rule book as he was telling them what he wanted instead of the guildelines.
On Tuesday 30th September, at 26 weeks +5 days Lewis delicned quite quickly and even with CPR (twice) he kept fighting on until the afternoon and he just got too tired.
At around 3.50pm Lewis very sadly passed away in our arms.
Lewis was just beautiful in every way possible, he had his daddys ears, mummy's nose and smile (so daddy says) dark hair, long fingers and toes, from the x rays it showed he had 13 ribs (yep 13) average person has 12. He even opened his eyes for us which was a moment we will never forget, he squeezed our finger many times, we changed his nappy numerous times, feed him some milk through his tube, gave him a clean...lots of memories in a short spare of time to treasure.
We would to say a big thank you for everyone involved over our time in hospital from my delivery midwife to the Neonatal consultants.
This money would be very appreciated to help and support other families who have to go through NICU, this will go a long way.

In honor of Lewis James Conway
