- I
On September 29, 2020 our friend, co-worker, and family member, Levon suffered from complications from his aortic graft, passing a blood clot into his right leg which had to be surgically removed. On October 14, 2020 Levon will be undergoing a major invasive surgery to remove his aortic graft to prevent clots from further forming and migrating into his legs or blocking off his aorta entirely. This upcoming surgery is known as descending thoracic aortic resection which requires two major veins to removed from his thighs which will subsequently be used to rebuild a section of his aorta which then requires open heart surgery. This surgery, as you can imagine, not only comes with a long healing process and lost income, it also comes with major potential complications such as: paralysis, stroke, increased or total blindness, death, as well as major infections.
As many of you may remember while on the job in May 2016 Levon had an aortic rupture due to a childhood heart condition. This caused him to have a subsequent stroke and an ischemic bowel resection, which required the removal of a portion of his large intestine, as well as a long period of hospitalization, including time in an induced coma while in the ICU. After those multiple invasive surgeries Levon suffered from post-surgical blindness and speech issues, neither of which have been fully resolved. As a result of this incident in 2016, he has had major changes to his employment, which have resulted in a significant and permanent reductions to his income.
Further, in 2017 his aortic graft sent a blood clot into his left leg, which was surgically removed and was being treated with blood thinners, however those blood thinners are no longer working, resulting in the new clots. As such he is required to undergo this major and invasive surgery. His recovery time from the descending thoracic aortic resection surgery has the potential to last up to 3-4 months and will require more time in the ICU.
These surgeries will again put Levon in major financial difficulties, and as you can imagine significant emotional and physical distress. I know these are hard times for all of us but for some, like our friend Levon, it is very hard. If you are able to give anything to help ease his suffering I know it means everything to him. Levon’s always had a big heart and we all know he’s taken a real beating, so let’s take the initiative to show him we love him and give him and his heart a bit of a break, he could really use it.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to me, and I will do my best to address and clarify anything I can.
