We are launching this GoFundMe to support Levi on his heart journey. Please read the message below from Levi’s mom:
David and I are so excited to be able to complete our family with our third little boy. Our oldest two, James and Chase, are already loving on and listening to Mommy’s belly and always asking about their baby, Levi. However, this little addition to our family has come with a big impact.
At our anatomy scan, we were made aware that Levi has been diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). HLHS is a congenital heart disease where the left ventricle does not form properly. The left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to the whole body, whereas the right ventricle pumps solely to the lungs. HLHS affects the aorta and the valve from the top atrium into the bottom ventricle. This is treatable through a series of three open heart surgeries following birth through the first few years of life. Levi also has a restrictive atrial septum between his top two atria, resulting in his pulmonary veins being dilated as they are under pressure from the heart. With the veins to his lungs under pressure, it can result in damage to his lungs as they grow.
Levi’s heart has and will continue to require many doctors’ appointments for close monitoring. The amazing medical team we have built is in Boston through Boston Children’s Hospital. He will be born and receive his interventions there. This requires me to relocate toward the end of my pregnancy to continue his close monitoring and to prepare for when he comes and following his arrival to be with him as he will be immediately admitted into the cardiac intensive care unit for interventions on his heart.
Relocating unfortunately requires extra expenses for housing, food, travel, as well as continuing to care for every day expenses at home during my maternity leave from work which will bring some unpaid time, and accrued medical expenses during this time.
Levi’s diagnosis has taken us by surprise. While devastating and shocking for us, he is already loved so completely and wholly by us and his brothers. We have been fighting hard to get him the absolute best care and won't ever stop fighting for him.
The hope of this GoFundMe is to make this difficult time and the financial strain a little easier on us. As the reality of this draws closer, we hope to be able to focus on our family rather than the many uncertainties it brings. We appreciate any financial support you're willing to give to our family and would love to ask for your prayers. We have been leaning on our faith as God is our ultimate Healer, Protector, and Comforter. We would love for you to help us pray for Levi, his team of doctors, and our family, as we navigate our new world as a family of five.
