Levi’s Rugged Maniac for The Lighthouse

Join Levi and I in making a difference by
supporting a good cause! Since moving to
Florida, Lighthouse Vision Loss Education
has become an extremely important part
of our lives. Based in Sarasota, Florida,
Lighthouse Vision Loss Education Center is
the only nationally accredited, not-for-profit,
organization providing training at no cost
for blind and visually impaired in Sarasota,
Manatee, Charlotte, DeSoto, and Highlands
counties. Levi and I are doing Rugged
Maniac (5k military style obstacle course)
in Tampa, Florida, on October 2, 2021. We
felt that this event was a perfect opportunity
to bring awareness to Lighthouse Vison
Loss Education Center and help raise
money for their numerous training sessions.
Lighthouse Vision Loss Education provides
educational training classes to individuals
in different stages of life and their classes
cover all aspects of daily life. One of their
programs is the Transition program which
is especially designed to assist teenagers
with preparation for adulthood. This program provides Levi with the ability to grow into a
self sufficient confident person in a safe and
friendly learning environment. While attending
classes, Levi is forming friendships with other
teens who can understand the struggles
of life as a teenager and obstacles of daily
life. In addition, Levi receives education
training in 0&M (Orientation and Mobility),
AT (Assistive Technology), and had the
opportunity to complete a WBLE (Work Based
Learning Experience) with the Lighthouse's AT
department. There are monthly outings, Tech
in the Community during school breaks, and a
variety of Zoom classes each week covering
different topics that relate to the goal of
assisting each teen to work toward becoming
fully independent member of society. Each
wonderful staff member consistently
goes above and beyond to make all of this
possible. Lighthouse Vision Loss Education
Center's goal is to educate and empower
those affected by vision loss so they may
enjoy happy, healthy and independent lives.
