Sometimes life gives you unexpected challenges, and although challenging to understand in the moment, they serve to make you stronger than you ever thought possible. My nephew Owen is the strongest, toughest kiddo that I know. What started out like a normal Tuesday afternoon, quickly turned into a nightmare when Owen became sick and began having trouble breathing. He was rushed to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Portland, where he was diagnosed with RSV, a blood infection, and meningitis. After being placed on oxygen and enduring multiple rounds of various antibiotics, tests, scans, and traumatic blood draws, Owen is on the path to recovery and will emerge stronger than he may ever realize. It is a blessing to see him playing, laughing, and eating all the bacon his heart desires! Not only is Owen stronger today, but so are his parents, Faith and Nate. From the minute he was rushed to the hospital, they have continuously been by his side. Neither parent has been able to work since this emergency occurred close to two weeks ago. They have focused all of their supports and resources into providing the best care for Owen, all while under the significant strain of this unforeseen financial burden. Faith and Nate never hesitate to help others in need, but would never ask for help themselves.
