LeVar Milan's Recovery

Donation protected
Family and friends, LeVar needs your support. On November 18, 2022, LeVar suffered a hemorrhagic brain stroke causing paralysis to his right side and an inability to verbally communicate. While hospitalized, doctors performed a craniectomy to remove a section of the skull due to swelling of the brain and anticipate a cranioplasty in a few months to replace the skull flap when they believe there is no longer a threat for more swelling. It was indicated that several blood clots were found in both of LeVar’s legs, arms, and lungs along with what appeared to be “old blood” on the brain from what doctors suspect may have been a brain bleed weeks before the stroke. Because of his inability to swallow effectively, a feeding tube was inserted to assist LeVar with nutrition.

On January 2, 2023, LeVar was discharged from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation, which includes physical, occupational, and speech therapy. While LeVar has made some progress and is swallowing small amounts of food and showing cognitive improvement with the ability to communicate with his left hand, nods, and small sounds, his health insurance provider has decided to end all therapies. This means less than 2 months after the stroke, the insurance company no longer sees a medical necessity to continue the therapies needed to assist LeVar with learning how to speak and walk again.

The needed therapies will cost a minimum of $6,000 per month out-of-pocket and from what doctors and therapists have explained, LeVar should anticipate a 4-6 month window of recovery.

As many of you know, LeVar dedicated the past two years of his time and resources to care for his dad, who passed away 6 months ago, followed by his mom 3 months later. Therefore, resources to provide his care are quickly depleting.

This is by far one of the most difficult times for the Milan family. While grieving the loss of both a mother and father, there is now the present issue of caring for LeVar. We see LeVar’s strength and determination to get stronger. We want to hear him laugh again, sing again, and pray for his family and friends again! We believe in the power of prayer and we believe that by God’s grace, LeVar will recover! In addition to consistent prayer, we want to do everything possible to advocate for LeVar in the same way he advocated for his mom and dad over the past two years. Will you help us to help him?

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $25,000 to cover the out-of-pocket expenses for rehabilitative therapies over the next 4 months. Any amount you can help with is greatly appreciated and will go toward LeVar’s care. LeVar knows the Village he has in all of you. We are counting on your love and support to see him through this challenging time.

With love, the Milan Family
