Leukemia Battle for Kelsey Anderson
Donation protected

Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Kelsey flew to MI to visit her boyfriend, Derek Goeman's, family. The morning after Derek and Kelsey arrived to MI, Kelsey had a sore throat among other symptoms. Kelsey visited a Dr. who performed a strep test. Since the strep test was negative, the Dr suggested that it was just allergies.
As the week progressed, Kelsey got sicker and sicker and struggled to get out of bed in the mornings. By Saturday morning, Kelsey had a fever and couldn't move. She ended up at the ER in Cadillac. We assumed what we thought would be the worst news, that she had Covid. Several tests were performed as well as a Covid test. The Dr said it would take 3-5 days to get the Covid results back. The other tests performed showed that Kelsey had strep throat and a low blood count. Her platelett count was 7,000. Normal count is 150,000 to 450,000. The Dr shared that what was going on in her body was life threatening and she needed to be transferred to Spectrum in Grand Rapids via ambulance. Kelsey was admitted to Spectrum where further testing was performed. On Sunday, July 19, Kelsey was diagnosed with Leukemia. After 2 blood transfusions and administration of platelett's, Kelsey was put on a plane so that she could be treated in her home town, Denver, CO. After landing, Kelsey was brought straight to a hospital in Denver where they are performing further tests and starting treatment.
Kelsey lived with her mom until her mom passed away 7 years ago. After her mom passed, Kelsey moved in with her grandma. Sadly, her grandma passed away from cancer. Currently, Kelsey is a college student who is also working almost 40 hours a week as a therapist with autistic kids. Because she is shy of getting 40 hours a week, she doesn't qualify for health insurance. Purchasing insurance was too expensive for her. Currently, Kelsey doesn't have insurance to cover the cost of her medical expenses. She also doesn't qualify for assistance because she makes too much.
The medical expenses Kelsey is going to be facing are going to be catastrophic. I am reaching out to anyone who is willing to help her with her expenses. She is facing a very tough fight and shouldn't have to worry about how she will cover the cost for her treatment. Any donation you can give is appreciated.
