Hello Community,

We are sad to announce that Lettemeskel (Meskela) Beraki Ghebray transitioned to heaven on Friday, July 8, 2022. She fought valiantly against breast cancer for 5 years and finally rested surrounded by her loved ones at Kaiser Hospital.

Meskela Ghebray was born on December 15, 1962 in Keren, Eritrea to her mother Letensie Hamid and father Beraki Ghebray. She joined her siblings: Tseguane, Tesfalom, Hedat, Tabetu, Habtemariam, Alameen, Hadas, Rista, Tirhas, and Muse. Meskela loved school, helping her parents and eight siblings, and simply having fun enjoying every moment of life. She excelled in school and was part of a special cohort of students selected for a specialized Teacher Training Program in Gondar, Ethiopia for two years. After graduating she was placed in the Campo Elementary School in Elebared, Eritrea where she taught for two years.

Family has always been very important to Meskela. In 1991, she had her first beautiful daughter Betelehem Ghebremeskel. In 1993, she married her husband Tekle Zerie and later immigrated to the United States where she had her second child Elias. Since coming to the United States, she worked tirelessly to complete the immigration process for her daughter to join her in the United States in 2001.

Meskela worked as a caregiver for many elderly community members. She later returned to school and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked for a number years before she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2017. Since being diagnosed, she completed many types of treatment but still maintained her lively contagious positive spirit she was well-known for. She recently visited her family in Eritrea, England, and Canada. Meskela loved traveling, hanging out with her friends, and watching EriTV dramas, and comedies on YouTube. Meskela also loved playing with her two grandchildren Beleena and Sergo, cooking and drinking coffee (buun) with her family, and connecting with distant relatives.

The family thanks you in advance for your prayers, and support throughout the years and during this time.
