Abby's Therapy and Rehab Fund

We are asking on Abby’s behalf for your generosity. Any amount that you are able to contribute to Abby’s continuing therapy is greatly appreciated. Please read about her needs below.

 1 John 3:17

But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

Many of you know our dear friend and sister Abby Dike, and  the health challenges she has faced over the past 11 months. She suffered a massive stroke in December 2013.  She is still on the long road to recovery.

It has taken a while, but she has been approved for and is receiving Medicaid to cover her stay at the Bronzeville Park Skilled Nursing & Living Facility. The goal is to get her well enough to move into an assisted living facility.

Before that can happen, Abby must meet certain physical standards of self-care. She requires a high level of continued physical and occupational therapy to get to this point. In addition, there are only a couple of assisted living facilities in the Chicago area that accept residents with Medicaid who are Abby's age. And there is a waiting list. So she can’t move to assisted living until she is physically capable of living there AND there is availability.

Medicaid pays 100 percent of the cost of staying at the Bronzeville facility, but unfortunately it does NOT cover ANY of her physical or occupational therapy.  Abby's church family in the Central Ministry Center of the Chicago Church of Christ has been paying the cost of her therapies since July. However, they will be unable to cover her therapy expenses after the end of November, because of limits the federal government places on non-profit expenditures of this kind.

Abby receives physical or occupational therapy six days a week for 50 minutes each, at a cost of $1.00 per minute. That comes to a cost of $300 per week, or about $1,200 per month. She has no resources to pay this expense. We are respectfully asking for donations to pay for this essential therapy until Abby is well enough to move into an assisted living facility AND such an opening  becomes available, which could take several months.

We thank you on Abby’s behalf in advance for your consideration. Again, any amount that you can contribute is greatly appreciated.

God bless.
