Let's Go Éanna Basketball!

Donation protected
Hello to all the members of our Éanna family!

In these uncertain and anxious times, we hope you and your families are keeping well.

As we’re all aware, this has been an extremely difficult and disappointing start to a season that was so full of promise and anticipation, hanging on to the coat tails of such an exciting and successful season last year.

As a club our sole motivation is to get kids playing basketball. We want them to be afforded the same opportunities and access to the game that many of our coaches and volunteers were afforded. This was a huge reason for setting the club’s sights on Super League; to have the highest standard of the sport in our country accessible to the kids of the club, encouraging them to keep training and playing hard, so that someday maybe they would be pulling on that blue jersey of a cold Saturday night on the prestigious court in Tallaght to represent their grassroots club in an All-Ireland Cup Final.

The Éanna family grew from strength to strength week on week and there was nowhere we’d rather be than at the home of Éanna or on the road, travelling the length and breadth of the country to cheer on the Super League team. The chant of “Let’s Go Éanna, Let’s Go” spurring the team on to some last minute clinching wins, and even where the result didn’t go our way it still rang out around the gym, loud and proud.

We are proud that this club is renowned far and wide for its community spirit where we treat everyone like family. For anyone who was in Ballyboden club house last year after a heart breaking cup final loss, you will have seen the hero’s welcome that a devastated team received, they were undoubtedly winner in our eyes. You would also have heard Josh Wilson talk about the welcome that he received when he arrived in Ireland from LA to play basketball for a little club on the Southside of Dublin, and how we gave him a family away from home, there weren’t too many dry eyes in the house!

Although it is a challenging time for the sport, now is when our community spirit and perseverance will carry us through..

What people maybe do not realise is the level of effort, time and funding that goes in to running the club, including a team in the highest standard of league in the country. Your voluntary committee members, coaches and managers are working tirelessly in the background to make sure that the underage teams can continue to participate in basketball (albeit outdoors), with everyone’s safety being the number 1 priority. Following months of intense preparation and planning the Super League season has been cruelly postponed, for the second time, just three days before our first league game.  Their running costs are hugely reliant on match night door sales, tuck shop, sponsorship and fundraising which is obviously not possible without the league running. The costs remain the same but the income does not which is why we are reaching out to our Éanna family to ask for support wherever possible.

If you are in a position to donate anything, no matter how little, it would be hugely appreciated until such times as hopefully the season gets to start. Donations can be anonymous so no pressure on anyone and feel free to share far and wide!

Hopefully we’ll all get to enjoy that Saturday night atmosphere again sooner rather than later. Until then we’ve included some videos and photos of last season so we can all remember the good times and that great sense of community and family that ravaged its way through the club in the best possible way – evidenced with on court success and the increased participation in the sport we love.

Many thanks in advance from all at Éanna Basketball.
