It Takes a Village

John 15:12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you…"

We have all heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." As many of you have seen a family that we all know and love has been faced with sudden tragedy. Julie- a nurse at the middle school- and two of her children were involved in a very serious car accident yesterday afternoon. Their vehicle was nearly crushed in between two semi trucks. By Gods grace her baby boy and her daughter made it through with very little injury. However, the situation for their mother is not so. Julie was trapped inside the vehicle and once responders were able to free her she was airlifted to the hospital. There doctors found broken femurs, that her knee cap is completely disjointed, and that she has broken several ribs. They also found that she has a broken neck along with several vertebrates. Amoung many others, Julie will have a very risky spinal surgery. As I type this my heart aches for her family. I can't imagine the worry in their hearts. To think that her toddler and her teenage daughter were there and had to witness the whole thing makes my stomach sick. I have been up all night trying to pray and ask God to show me anything that I could do to be helpful in such a helpless situation... I spoke with another one of her daughters, who I graduated with and is one of my best friends... Hearing all of her worries made my stomach churn. Julie will have to remain in the hospital for months on her long road to recovery. I can't even imagine the emotional burden on the children who are worried sick for their mother, much less a mother who is worried about her children. What I do know is that as members of a community we are a family. Julie has six children who all have needs. And while she is in the hospital hurting and worried, as her community, her "village," we can do our part to ease some of that worry. If you can contribute anything, please do. Not only will this family have unplanned medical expenses that they may need help with, they also have every day bills like all of us. They have a house payment and car payments and water and electric and groceries and all of the things that normal families have... It just so happens that right now they are in need. Right now mommy can't take care of everything like she normally does... It takes a village to raise a child, so let's come together and do our part.

Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
