Hi everyone,

We are sure most of you are aware of that Turkey is on fire now and nobody even the government cannot extinguish the fires. We're Hatice &Alkan Aydin and Sonay Karaarslan, we all were born in Turkey, Mugla in one of the best villages ever, called Gokbel. This area was called as heaven on earth by most of the people visited. We say “was” because every tree, every animal and nature itself have turned into ashes on this fire. Here are some photos and videos to show you how it was before the fire and how it is now.

Eminiz ki bir cogunuz Turkiye'nin suan yanginlarla mucadele ettiginden ve hukumet dahil kimsenin yanginlari sonduremediginden haberdarsinizdir. Biz Hatice& Alkan Aydin, Sonay Karaarslan Mugla'nin en guzel koylerinden birinde Gokbel de dogduk.Bu bolge daha once ziyaret etmis bir cok kisi tarafindan yeryuzundeki cennet olarak adlandirilmisti. Di diyoruz cunku ne yazikki hala devam etmekte olan yanginlar yuzunden bolgedeki her orman, o ormandaki tum canlilar ve bolgenin ekosistemi kul oldu. Asagida bolgenin eski ve yangin sonrasindaki hallerine dair fotograflar goreceksiniz.

 

 

Our aim with this campaign is to revive this natural beauty not for us but for the next generations. Let us tell you about the fires and area more and what we are planning to do for them. The fire started a week ago in Guvercinlik, Bodrum and then spread towards Mazi, Gokbel and Cokertme. First Mazi was on fire and the villagers were evacuated from their homes. Then the fires could not be stopped and reached to Gokbel which is our hometown. The authorities told them to consider they did not have any home at all and left the village behind with the animals in. Most of the villagers are farmers in the area and their only way of living is to raise olive trees and their livestock. But the authorities were asking them to leave everything they have behind and just evacuate their homes. Most of them did it but some was agreed to resist, they were ready to die for their villages, for their animals, homes and forests. The villagers tried their best to save the villages and forests but how can they fight against the fires without relevant equipments?

Bu kampanya ile bizlerin amaci ise bu dogal guzelligi kendimizden cok gelecek nesiller icin yeniden canlandirabilmek. Size bolgedeki yanginlardan ve bizlerin planlarindan biraz daha bahsetmemiz gerekirse yangin bundan yaklasik bir hafta kadar once Bodrum Guvercinlik mevkiinde baslayip once Mazi ya oradan da Gokbel ve Cokertmeye kadar ilerledi, once Mazi daki koyluler tahliye edildiler. Daha sonrasinda yanginlar durdurulamadi ve Gokbel'e bizim koyumuze kadar ulasti ve devlet yetkilileri koylulere eviniz hic olmamis gibi dusunun ve evlerinizi derhal terkedin cagrisinda bulundular. Bolgedeki bir cok koylu sahip olduklari hayvanlari ve zeytinlikleri ile gecimlerini saglarlar ve simdi yetkililer onlardan sahip olduklari herseyi geride birakip koyu bosaltmalarini istiyordu. Cogu bu cagriya uydular ancak bazilari da direnmeye kararliydi ve koyleri icin hayatlarini tehlikeye atmaya ve hatta olmeye raziydilar. Koyluler 3 gece boyunca ellerinden geleni yaptilar ancak gerekli ekipmana sahip olmadan alevlere nasil karsi konulurdu ki ?

Koylulerin yasadiklari dehset ve korkuyu gormek icin asagidaki linke tiklamaniz yeterli olacak.

These are the pictures of the fires coming towards the village centres and the villagers are just watching them helplessly. You must have realised before the fires all the area was full of pine and olive trees. These villagers produce olive and olive oil for hundred of years, this is their culture passing from one generation to the other. They don’t have any other income. They labour the soil and raise olive trees and afford   their lives as it is shown in the picture below. 

Yukaridaki fotograflarda gorebileceginiz gibi alevler hizla koy meydanina dogru ilerliyor ve koyluler caresizce izlemekle yetiniyorlar. Yangin oncesi fotograflardan da gorulecegi gibi butun bolge zeytin ve cam agaclari ile kapliydi. Bolge halki yuzlerce yildir zeytin ve zeytin yagi ureterek geciniyordu, bu bolgede jenerasyonlar arasi aktarilan bir kulturdu adeta. Hic bir koylulun bunun disinda bir gecim kaynagi da yoktu. Topragi islerler, zeytin agaclarini buyuturler ve gecimlerini asagidaki fotografta goreceginiz sekilde saglarlardi.

 

 

So with this fire not only forests but also the villagers' only source of income have vanished. With the money collected from this campaign our main aim is to help these villagers who are in need and provide olive and pine seedlings so that they can revive the area again and get their breadwinner back.

 

This is not only an environmental fundraising but also a life saving one!
