If you are reading this, your life has likely been touched by the East family. Whether he has inspired your kids in his role as “Mr. East” at Brook Knoll Elementary, or kicked your butt with a killer workout at CrossFit, or affected your life in some other way, Josh has impacted so many in our community.

 

Josh and Amy’s lives have been turned upside down over the last month. Right after the school year ended, Josh was diagnosed with stage four metastatic lung cancer. He also has several tumors in his brain, lymph nodes, and other areas. As a non-smoker committed to physical well-being, this has been a shocking diagnosis.

 

Josh, Amy and Gideon (their eight-year-old son) are facing quite a challenge in the coming days. Josh is about to begin neuro-radiation on the spots affecting his pituitary gland (and his vision). He will likely begin chemotherapy soon thereafter.

 

In addition to the emotional and physical strains of Josh’s medical care, there is also the added weight of worrying about how their family will manage these challenges financially. Although they have insurance, their medical bills are still substantial. While Josh is hoping to teach in the fall, there are still a lot of unknowns.
