This is for our Kris. Our spunky, dependable friend who loves a little bit of mischief, our community nurse who takes such good care of our loved ones, and our do-it-all mom & wife & sister (who runs the show, shows up for us when we need her, who does the things we never asked her to). On and on. Our very tough human who won’t ask for help, who would get through this like she does anything: quietly while prioritizing others.
Kris and Weston will read this at the same time you all are, and I’ll likely be in trouble. And while Kris and Weston could and would get through this themselves, sometimes it’s nice to know you don’t have to. And that the folks who love them not only want to help, but enjoy it.
Kris drove herself home from work in a lot of pain on Wednesday night and ended up in Pierre for an appendix removal. Unfortunately, as of today, Saturday, she’s still here and will remain so until certain improvements occur. There have been a few complications and surprises and there will be ongoing follow-ups from all that’s going on requiring Kris to be gone from work for the next 4 weeks at minimum. She’s resting a lot and eager to “walk out of here,” but I’ve told her she better wait until a little more spark returns to her eyes.
In true Kris fashion, she’s written a thank-you note on her hospital door to the clinicians taking care of her.
Thank you, proactively, for supporting Kris and Weston however that looks for you. I hope she considers this a little lightening of her load rather than something to cuss at me for. ❤️
