Let's Support Em Webster: Vascular Surgery Not Covered

My name is Kelly Robinson and I'm fundraising for my friend, Em Webster. Em brings an incredible amount of love and joy to their family, their community, and their friends. Viewing the world through a lens of community and kindness, Em is always ready to offer support, a hug, a smile. I always leave Em's presence feeling happier, lighter, having laughed way more than usual too - I am not alone in that! Many of us have had similar experiences - Em is like sunshine.

Recently, Em was having serious health struggles with the veins in their legs. Their blood flow was so decreased that their doctor could not find their dorsalis pedis pulse. The doctor explained that Em was facing serious medical complications, including the development of ulcers, and that they needed a venaseal procedure.

They undertook the surgery on the first leg in Moncton, as PEI does not have a vascular surgeon. All follow up procedures have also been in Moncton as those are not available on PEI either.

Em's costs have been spiraling. They were informed that that these vascular procedures are not covered like other surgeries in Canada. The PEI Government has indicated they will provide a small percentage of the cost, but they will not do so until the procedures are complete and paid for. Reimbursement could take weeks or months. When I asked, Em explained to me that the:

Em is only 29 and is currently unemployed during very difficult financial times. The costs of these medically necessary procedures, on top of escalating costs of living, are overwhelming.

We can help! Every donation is gratefully accepted and we are so thankful for community. I am hopeful we can cover the cost of the medical procedures, follow up appointments, and some help with basic costs of living while Em is not able to work.
