As a wife and mother, Carissa knows the demands of juggling home/parenting/life/work and the nuances of trying to keep life rolling as smoothly as possible. As an ICU nurse, she is all too familiar with the struggles of helping patients through their healthcare problems – surgeries, post-op infections & complications, unexpected hospital stays, medications galore that make you feel terrible from all the side effects, all the hassles! But now, she is learning to navigate the extremely stressful world of being a cancer patient on top of the responsibilities of everyday life. Carissa is in the thick of her cancer care with surgeries completed but more still to come, chemotherapy, radiation, and the unending schedule of doctor appointments. If you’ve ever been really sick before and had to go see the doctor, we all dread when the co-pays have to be paid and medical bills are now starting to show up (and sometimes pile up) in the mail. Unfortunately, insurance still only covers so much and only goes so far, and we all know that when you’re sick, being at work is almost impossible.
