Let's support and hold David and Family!

Hi! I am joining forces with Bj Barbee and Will Sargent to open up an opportunity to support and build community around our incredible long time friend David King and his amazing family. Let's hold and support our friends as they embark on the journey described by Lara below. Lots of love to you all!
On July 7th David passed out in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer after he had purchased some groceries. Some people called the ambulance for him. The doctors at the emergency room thought that he was just having a vagal response due to the heat of the day, lack of food, and dehydration. Unfortunately the next day he was still not feeling well and this time he was having pains in his abdomen and lower back. When we got to the emergency room, he looked so bad they took him back pretty quickly. After he got a CT scan they found a mass in his colon and lesions on his liver, even without further testing the doctors were pretty confident it was cancer. He was admitted to the hospital and over the next few days he got a biopsy and pain medication. He was released from the hospital on the 11th. Yesterday on Monday, July 22nd, 2024 we had his first oncology appointment. This is when we learned that he has stage four terminal Metastatic Colon Cancer. The oncologist said that he is very young to be diagnosed with this and that he needs to fight. She said that people can live for years and that some people even get to the point of going into remission. Still, the news was devastating. David had been out of work for a few weeks and had been looking for work but she said that he should apply for disability and just focus on fighting this disease. All of this has been pretty overwhelming for us as a family and we will be meeting with a social worker soon that hopefully will help us through the steps of applying for disability and finding other resources. We worry about our 10 year old son the most and want to help him get through this in any way we can, no matter what the outcome is. Hopefully we can stay present, and feel the feelings when we need to. We want to stay positive and focus on the joy in our lives while also recognizing that this is a painful and difficult situation. We appreciate any help from our community whether it be financial or emotional support. We completely understand if there are those of you that can't contribute financially, you can always send us some love.
