Let's Stand with our Friend Ezana

Dear Friends, Family, and Compassionate Souls,

I hope this message finds you well. Today, I am reaching out to you on behalf of my dear friend, Dr. Ezana Ayele, a fellow medical school companion and an esteemed educator at Dilla University Hospital in Ethiopia.

Dr. Ezana has always been a pillar of kindness, friendliness, and camaraderie. However, life has taken an unexpected turn for him and his family. His beloved daughter, Christian Ezana, a brave 7-year-old, is currently fighting a relapsed B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Three years ago, she underwent treatment in India, and for a while, it seemed like she was on the path to recovery, joyfully returning to her school and normal life.

Regrettably, recent developments have shown an enlarged lymph node, prompting another diagnostic journey to India. The results have confirmed the heartbreaking news of a relapse in ALL. Christian is now scheduled for another round of intensive immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

Dr. Ezana has shouldered the weight of this challenging journey on his own, but the escalating costs of treatment have become increasingly difficult to manage. While some compassionate friends back home have rallied to raise funds, it is evident that the financial burden remains overwhelming.

In light of this, I have initiated a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $5000 to support Christian's ongoing medical care. Witnessing a child endure such a serious illness is a profound challenge for any parent, and Dr. Ezana needs our collective support to ensure Christian receives the best possible care.

Our bond, forged during our time together at medical school and as a part of the Black Lion community, should serve as a reminder that we stand together in times of adversity. Life is a fellowship, a shared journey with friends and family. Today, I ask you to join hands with me and show Dr. Ezana that he is not alone.
