Let's show JayP how much we care! #rideforward

Dear cycling family and friends…….as you all know by now our dear friend Jay Petervary was 2,000 miles into his 3,080-mile ride down the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route this August when a driver hit him from behind at high speed in the middle of the day on a wide open road, destroying Jay's bike and causing severe injuries.
The US medical system is convoluted and insanely expensive. Insurance companies will get away with and not cover any incurred expenses they can regardless of Jay's situation. Jay still has no idea of what the total cost will be from an ambulance ride, two surgeries, a multi-day stay at the hospital, post-op check-ups, and physical therapy, At this point he does know the 16 year old driver will not be on the hook for much of it considering the minimum liability insurance that was on the vehicle and no assets to go after.
Not only that, but Jay makes his living by being active. He's a professional athlete and ambassador of the sport, with sponsor obligations and a guiding and consulting business he has been investing a lot of time and energy into. He also had gotten back into some construction work. All of that is on hold because of his injuries, and you better believe he's not someone who's good at sitting still.
The incidentals, unforeseen expenses, deductibles, rehab, physical therapy, body work, damaged equipment/bike, lost time to earn money, attorney fees, and he only knows what else are continuing to add up!
For those that know Jay well…….It's not in his nature to ask for help, let alone ask for money but we all know that he and his family are being challenged by the aftermath of the collision. And will continue to be challenged for an unknown amount of time at this point.
I personally know that Jay and Tracey have supported me over the years, and I can honestly say I would not have ever pushed myself as far as I have on a bike if it were not for the two of them. They both have played a significant role in my passion for cycling and I know they have done the same for so many others out there! Knowing that I was with Jay early on after the accident people have reached out to me asking how they can help and support our friends Jay and Tracey during this time. So, with that in mind and knowing a lot of you want to help I decided to start a GoFundMe page. I know how large the cycling community is and how much we care for each other, so please, let’s all show Jay and Tracey that we are here for them, care about them and will support them as we all watch Jay get back on his bike!!!
Jay has always been eager to help others with knowledge, moral support, and even quick errands around the region to deliver some essential piece of equipment to a rider in need. So to keep Jay and Tracey from stressing too much about money during this hard time, any little bit you can offer will help out and be much appreciated.
Thank you all so very much and I hope to see you at Fat Pursuit come January……their event is second to none and will forever hold a very special place in my heart….let’s celebrate Jay and Tracey and ride bikes in the snow together….I promise you, you will not regret it!
Cheers
