Hey guys.. my name is Dana and I’m Jamie’s cousin. I am starting this go fund me in hopes to help Jamie some with her bills while she is hospitalized. We are not sure how long it will be or how things will be once she gets home. We’re not sure if she will be able to return to work at all at this point but for the right now she could really use the help with bills, food, and basic needs. Please find it in your heart to give what ever you can. Jamie was at the beach last weekend with her boyfriend and my family and we all went swimming in the ocean. She got an ear infection in her left ear sometime between Saturday and Sunday. The ear infection grew to her right ear and then to her mastoid bone behind both of her ears. Monday Jamie was in severe pain and was running a high fever. She had no idea that the bacteria in her infected ears was moving rapidly and soon would move to her blood stream. Once she got home from the beach Monday evening she was miserable. Her neck and head were pounding with pain and she could barely lift her head. Tuesday morning she called and got a late afternoon appointment at her doctor's office. Every 10 mins she would ask if it was time to go but she got to the point that she could not take the pain anymore and she became incoherent. Her boyfriend at this point called 911 and she was transported to northeast medical. At this point the bacteria in her ears and mastoid bone has moved to her blood stream. Jamie was septic and she could die soon without treatment. The bacteria then moved to her brain and spinal cord which is called bacteria meningitis. After being in the emergency room for several hours on antibiotics for her ear infections the doctors noticed that she was not getting any better only worse and that is when they did a spinal tap and discovered that she had meningitis. She was admitted to the ICU of northeast on late Tuesday evening. Her vitals were not stable at this point and we still didn't know if she was going to pull through. The bacteria is still moving through her blood stream and now is causing a bladder infection. After 24 hours of iv antibiotics she finally started showing a little progress. For the first time Jamie was able to talk to her doctor's a little but at this point she is still incoherent for the most part. On Thursday Jamie was sitting up and able to walk a little but now she faced another problem. The steroids she is receiving is making her blood sugar very high. At this point she starts having to get insulin shots to control it. She also started to develop an infection in her mouth and on her lips. The doctors are still unsure if this infection is related to her meningitis or not. They moved her from icu to the main floor early Friday morning. Jamie will be in the hospital for the next 2 weeks to finish getting the iv antibiotics and then they will treat her other infections with oral antibiotics for another 6 weeks. The doctors do not know at this point what her full recovery time will be and or if she will suffer any deficits because of the bacteria meningitis. Our family is also asking for prayers for her as well. Thank you so much! Get well Jamie! God speed!!
