Hello, Mark Watring Stables Barn Family & Friends,
Mark is looking for a THREE-PEAT in competing in the Summer Olympic Games – first in 1984, then 20 years later in 2004, and now 20 years later in 2024!
Some of you may know Mark’s story very well, and others might not know all the fun facts, but all of us can greatly appreciate and admire Mark’s hard work and countless accomplishments throughout the years.
In 1982, Mark came into the spotlight by becoming an alternate for the U.S. Team in the 5th FEI Eventing World Championship, which was held in the village of Luhmühlen in northern Germany. Soon thereafter, he and his horse "Fair Besa" qualified for and participated in the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 3-Day Eventing. Mark’s focus eventually turned to show jumping, and in 2001, he was named the American Grand Prix Association's (AGA) "Rookie of the Year."
On August 16, 2003, Mark represented Puerto Rico in the Pan American Games celebrated in the Dominican Republic. It was there that he and his amazing horse "Sapphire" won the Individual Gold Medal and secured a berth and competed in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Since then, Mark has competed and placed in numerous jumping competitions and Grand Prix across multiple venues. Although his long-time partner Sapphire is no longer with us, Mark has celebrated countless victories aboard many talented mounts.
In 2020, Mark saw the tremendous potential in a handsome Holtseiner gelding named Limbossini RC (aka “Boss”). In a very short time, Mark has taken Boss from the 1.0m to the 1.6m! In July 2023, Mark returned to the Dominican Republic, where he represented Puerto Rico, this time in the Central American and Caribbean Games. Mark and Boss have earned a place to compete in the 2023 Pan American Games to be held this October in Santiago, Chile. Not IF but WHEN they place there, the next stop is Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games!!
Transporting a horse 5,588 miles to Chile and back by plane isn’t cheap. To give you an idea, the cost for overseas horse transportation and quarantine for Sapphire when Mark went to the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens was $45,000 – and that was 20 years ago!
Mark has given so much to each and every one of us – let’s help him send Boss to Santiago so he can get his three-peat!
