Aimee is my sister-in-law, she's my husband Colin's little sister. In September of 2021, the day before she was to start a new job, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Since then, she's been through all the expected cancer treatments, chemotherapy, radiation, etc..and she's been unbelievably tough..but she can't have a surgery to remove this cancer. The only thing that will remove the cancer from her body is to have a bone marrow/stem cell transplant. This is happening on Thursday June 2, 2022, almost 9 months after her diagnosis. Colin was a perfect match for bone marrow and he has been through the surgery to harvest almost 2 liters, which will be filtered into stem cells for Aimee to receive. She’ll have a long recovery and will be weak and continue to be immune compromised for many months in the future.
Aimee's cancer journey started with her not being covered by insurance. Luckily she has had the support of a good team of social workers that have been able to get her covered, so insurance has picked up the bill for some of her medical expenses. Needless to say, she will still be responsible for a lot. And without a job, she's struggling to cover the living expenses for her daughters at home. Aimee is a hard worker and wants to go back to work when she’s well. We certainly hope she has the energy to pursue everything she wants but we just don’t know what that will really look like.
When I say Aimee is one of the sweetest, most selfless, and FUNNIEST people I know, I am not exaggerating. We would all be lucky to have someone like her in our lives and she is deserving of all the love and help we can send her.
I'm asking for those of you who can share to please give to this cause. I have faith that Aimee will get the miracle she needs for her healing, and I know that we can come together to give her the gift of what's needed to relieve her of any monetary worries.
