Let’s save “Saint Bernie’s” life. Hit by a car.

On July 5th “Saint Bernie” after being cooped up inside since the first bolted out the from door. He was feral and adopted us when he was about 1 years old. So he was used to going outside during the day and coming home with presents (yuck) at night. But will only bring presents if there is a female in the house and has to present them to her and tell her all about it and get praised for it. Still weird. On the 5th he disappeared for 20 days. After a long hard search everyday walking the streets I laid a scent trail for him to find his way home since he was probably spooked into another neighborhood from fireworks still going off on 5th. On July 25th he made his way home.

“Saint Bernie” had lost almost half his body weight and smelled like death. His jaw has also been fractured and is dislocated. I gave him an oat dry bath, got as many fleas off him as possible, gave him flea medication right away and this past Wednesday took him to the North Figueroa Animal Hospital at 6:30am where we were discharged at 10:30am and told they could not help him and to take him to an Emergency Hospital with Specialty Surgeons. After calling around from the car and working through numbers given to me by the Sam Simon Foundation I quickly took him to AM/PM Animal Hospital in Norwalk where at 10:30pm at night after X-rays, bloodwork and exam was thus told they could not help “Saint Bernie.” He had a small fracture in the back part of his jaw they barely could see and it was dislocated and they don’t do that surgery. Once again I was told I would need “a specialist” for that surgery and it would cost $10,000 not including after care. . He will get a plate installed and I will feed him through a tube for two months and he should then be 100% fine after they release his wired shut jaw. Doctor believes he was almost 100% hit by a car.

So this GoFundMe is to save “Saint Bernie’s” life. The alternative is to put him down. And in this surgery “Saint Bernie” will become “Super Saint Bernie” or as the kids wanna say, “The Terminator Saint Bernie” due to the metal jaw plate.

He won’t get off my lap. He has been getting non stop love and cuddles. He will be a forever indoor cat now and is a retired hunter. His black brother “Axel” has been banned from ever going outside due to the danger of the speeding cars. I have watched many cars blow the stop sign at the end of our block and unfortunately people that pass through El Segundo don’t realize this is a residential tiny beautiful community full of children and pets and speed threatens their safety.

“Saint Bernie” is very attached to my older son Liam. Amazing how animals create a special connection.

Let’s see if we can save “Saint Bernie’s” life. I’ve never done a GoFundMe but after numerous requests from the community who helped me search for him and for the love of “Saint Bernie” myself I had to put all pride aside and just try to at least give him a fighting chance. He did find his way home.
