Help Lizzy Recover — and Support Bailey After Emergency Surgery Complications

A few weeks ago, we launched this fundraiser because we feared the worst for Lizzy, our 7-year-old Golden Retriever. After a suspected malignant tumor and months of arthritis pain, we were terrified — and my mother, who is disabled and relies on Lizzy as her emotional and daily support, was almost too afraid to even go to the vet.

Your donations changed that.

Because of your help, we were able to get Lizzy examined properly. The best news:

✨ The tumor is localized and has not spread.

✨ She does not need major invasive treatment.

✨ Only a small surgery remains — which could make her cancer-free.

But the week Lizzy was supposed to have her surgery, something else happened — something that shook us all.

Bailey’s Story — and Why We Are Expanding This Fundraiser

Bailey is just over a year old. She is my soul dog — the puppy who helped me through severe depression, my therapy companion, and Lizzy’s emotional support. They are inseparable.

After her first heat, Bailey became severely pseudopregnant for over a month. Our vet strongly recommended an urgent spay to prevent the high risk of pyometra and uterine cancer. We agreed immediately, believing it would be a simple routine surgery.

It wasn’t.

• Hours after the operation, Bailey began bleeding heavily.

We rushed her to the emergency vet, terrified.

• Her sutures ruptured — twice.

Again she bled through the night, requiring more emergency care.

• We have already returned to the vet four more times due to bleeding and wound complications.

Every visit added another bill.

• On Friday she has her (hopefully) final check-up.

Her last staples and sutures will be removed — and we pray this is the end of the complications.

Right now, the total costs of the surgery plus all emergency treatments and complication aftercare together are already close to €1,000 — and we cannot afford the ongoing bills.

Meanwhile, Lizzy still needs her small tumor-removal surgery, but my mum is now too scared to proceed with another operation while Bailey is struggling.

My mother is 60, nearly blind from glaucoma, lives with Hashimoto’s disease and chronic shoulder pain, and depends on Lizzy emotionally. Without Lizzy, her daily stability collapses.

I am studying full-time while caring for my mother, Lizzy, and Bailey — and now navigating medical emergencies for both dogs at once. It is overwhelming emotionally and financially.

But there is hope.

Vor einigen Wochen haben wir diese Spendenaktion gestartet, weil wir große Angst um Lizzy hatten. Bei unserer 7-jährigen Golden Retrieverin stand der Verdacht eines bösartigen Tumors im Raum, und ihre Arthrose wurde immer schlimmer. Meine Mutter, die fast blind ist und mit Hashimoto und chronischen Schmerzen lebt, hatte große Angst, überhaupt zur Untersuchung zu gehen.

Dank eurer Spenden konnten wir Lizzy endlich gründlich untersuchen lassen.

Und wir haben gute Nachrichten:

✨ Nur ein kleiner Eingriff fehlt noch – und danach könnte sie krebsfrei sein.

Doch genau in dieser Woche passierte etwas Unerwartetes.

Baileys Geschichte – und warum wir die Kampagne erweitern

Bailey ist etwas über ein Jahr alt. Sie ist mein Seelenhund, meine Therapiehündin in schweren Zeiten und gleichzeitig Lizzys emotionale Stütze. Die beiden sind unzertrennlich.

Nach ihrer ersten Läufigkeit entwickelte Bailey über einen Monat lang eine sehr starke Scheinschwangerschaft. Unser Tierarzt warnte uns ausdrücklich vor dem Risiko von Gebärmutterentzündung und -krebs und riet dringend zu einer schnellen Kastration.

Wir stimmten sofort zu, in der Annahme, es wäre ein Routineeingriff.

Stattdessen begann ein Albtraum.

• Bereits wenige Stunden nach der OP begann Bailey stark zu bluten.

Wir mussten nachts in die Tierklinik fahren.

• Ihre Nähte sind sogar zweimal aufgegangen.

Jedes Mal erneut starke Blutungen und Panik.

• Insgesamt mussten wir bereits vier weitere Male zum Tierarzt wegen Komplikationen.

Jeder Besuch kostete zusätzlich Geld.

• Am Freitag findet der hoffentlich letzte Termin statt.

Die letzten Klammern und Fäden werden entfernt.

Die gesamten Kosten für die Operation PLUS alle Notfallbehandlungen und Komplikations-Nachsorge liegen inzwischen bereits bei fast 1.000 € — und wir können das nicht mehr alleine stemmen.

Gleichzeitig steht Lizzys kleine OP noch an, doch meine Mutter hat nach all den Komplikationen jetzt große Angst, einen weiteren Eingriff durchführen zu lassen.

Warum wir eure Hilfe dringend brauchen

Meine Mutter (60) ist fast blind, hat Hashimoto und chronische Schmerzen. Lizzy gibt ihr Struktur, Stabilität und emotionalen Halt.

Ich selbst studiere Vollzeit und kümmere mich gleichzeitig um meine Mutter, Lizzy und Bailey — und jetzt um zwei medizinische Notfälle gleichzeitig. Emotional, körperlich und finanziell sind wir am Limit.

Aber es gibt Hoffnung.

Lizzy kann genesen — und Bailey kann heilen — wenn wir die Behandlungen weiter finanzieren können.
